The research group Materials Processing investigates the relationships between processing conditions, microstructures and properties of modern functional and structural engineering materials. On central aspect is the detailed characterization of microstructures, which involves the application of state of art microscopy techniques, as well as the development of new characterization approaches.

The aim of the research group is to establish the relationships between thermomechanical processing parameters, microstructure and mechanical properties of compositionally complex alloys. The activities are oriented towards two main aspects for the optimization of alloys used in structural applications, namely, the understanding of their deformation mechanisms in a broad temperature range from cryogenic to high temperatures as well as their microstructural stability and kinetics of strength degradation at high temperatures.
